Canon EOS-1D C and C500 4K Cinema cameras

Canon unveils EOS-1D C and C500 4K Cinema cameras. the C500 -- a higher-end version of the C300 that adds several shooting modes, dual 3G-SDI ports and a larger, permanent grip. Both cameras can capture 4K video, but in substantially different ways.

 The 1DC specs - $15,000 list, 4096 x 2160 8-bit 4:2:2 video to a CF card at 24 fps and headphone jack instead of pc socket.

The 1D C offers the same still capabilities as the 1D X, including the new focus system and sensitivity through ISO 204,800, the camera can only jump up to ISO 25,600 in video mode. Likewise, the C500 offers the same ISO range as the C300 -- ISO 320-20,000.

The C500 offers both 2048 x 1080 and 1920 x 1080 with either 12-bit or 10-bit 4:4:4 60p compressed RAW. There's also an option to jump up to 120 frames-per-second, with 12-bit or 10-bit 4:2:2 YCC output. With the 1D C, you can shoot standard-format 1080p video at an uncompressed setting with 8-bit 4:2:2 Clean HD via HDMI, or you can send 4:2:0 1080p clips to the CF card -- both at up to 60 fps.

So sorry to all of you who are hoping for a cheaper PL mount cinema camera . But looks like both sony and Canon are pushing 4K now.

Canon Announcment NAB 2012

Canon is going to be announcing something big at NAB this year. 15th April will see 'The story Continue' screening for the Cinema EOS line and on the 16th 'The next Evolution' Technical Briefing and dinner. So as you can imagine the rumour mill is well and truly turning with talks of 4K EOS camera between the 5D mkIII and the C300. We shall report as soon as I hear anything more.

Canon EOS C300

So Canon have done it. They have revealed a dedicated video camera based on the EOS line of cameras, super 35mm sensor, PL or Canon EF Mount.  There will be two separate models, The PL mount version and the EF mount version, both the same price, so unlike the Sony F3 the mounts are not interchangeable.

 

Whilst the C300 is the first Canon EOS badged camcorder, it shares many features with the XF305 camcorder:
