ARRI Alexa cameras will record native Avid DNxHD as MXF files in-camera on SxS Cards.
As of January 2012 the ARRI Alexa will be able to record native to the Avid DNxHD codec at data rates of upto 145Mbit/s at 8 bit, and 220 Mbit/s at 10 bit. The highest quality version of the codec DNxHD 444, will record at 440Mbit/s at 10 bit depth the same as Sony's HDCAMSR.
These will all be able to record directly to the SxS cards in camera. So you will be able to record to DNxHD in camera aswell as ARRIRAW to the codex onboard recorder. This move proves that Avid are very much still the industry favourite and are back ontop.
